JUVENILE DRUG TESTING - Voluntary Confidential Juvenile Drug Testing

 - A tool for parents to encourage their children to stay drug free

    remember you are your child’s best refusal skill.
 Bring your child or their urine specimen to the Drug Education Council Office at 3000 Television Avenue, Mobile.
  • The specimen will be assigned a random number and sent to the laboratory for testing free
  • Call our office for test results - 251.478.7855.

Specimens will be tested for the following types of drugs:

• THC (Marijuana)
• Cocaine
• Opiates (pain killers like Lortab and Vicodin)
• Methamphetamine
• Amphetamine (stimulant drugs including ADD/ADHD medicines)
• Methadone
• Benzodiazepine (depressant drugs like Valium and Xanax)
• Barbiturates (drugs like sleeping pills)
• Oxycodone (Oxycontin)
• MDMA/Ecstasy

57% of high school seniors admit to trying illegal drugs, not including alcohol or tobacco. Teens using these drugs can seriously affect their brain development and future well being. Youth report that the single biggest influence on their decision about whether or not to use alcohol or other drugs is PARENTS. BOOKS - Both books listed below are currently available along with DVDs on a variety of current topics at the DEC Office.
1. Why Do They Act That Way ~a Survival Guide to the Adolescent Brain for You and Your Teen, David Walsh, Ph.D. – An easy to read, practical book explaing what happens to the human brain from childhood through adolescence to adulthood with scientific explanations of risk-taking, miscommunication, fatigue, quickness to anger, etc.
2. How to Raise A Drug Free Kid ~the Straight Dope For Parents, Joseph A. Califano, Jr. – offers advice and information on how to prepare your child for the crucial decision-making moments and on many of the most daunting parenting topics.

BEHAVIOR CONTRACT - A signed contract outlining specific actions and consequences between parent and child can help clarify the gray area of misunderstanding that often becomes more and more present as our children get older and become more independent. Example of Parent/Child Contract:
