Red Ribbon Leadership Awards

Each year, outstanding students from Mobile and Baldwin County are selected as individuals who exemplify the 6 pillars of Character promoted by the Character Counts initiative and the Drug Education Council. These include trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
These young student leaders work with their School Red Ribbon Coordinator to lead Red Ribbon activities on their school campus during Red Ribbon Week. These students are also challenged to plan and execute a community service project to help their peers build a connection to the community and encourage healthy lifestyle choices.
The 2024 National Red Ribbon Week was October 23rd – 31st. However, we encouraged each school to celebrate Red Ribbon during a week in October or November that is most suitable for them. Our Red Ribbon Leadership Awards Kick-off events were held in Mobile and Baldwin County in September, and this year’s theme was “We Love Our Veterans & First Responders!” We encouraged the students to consider this theme when planning their community service project and Red Ribbon Week activities.
Each school chose a Red Ribbon leader to organize the week’s activities and rally the student body to be healthy and drug-free. Then we challenged each student leader to plan a community service project. Project information must be submitted by 4:00 PM, Friday, March 14th, 2025. We ask that you please send us pictures and videos of what your student leader is doing and we will share them on all of our social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook & Twitter).
In the spring, student leaders who submit project information to us will be presented with a commemorative medallion at a Red Ribbon Celebration. Courtney Upton Leadership Scholarships are awarded to outstanding 12th-grade projects in Mobile and Baldwin Counties.
